Ableism
noun
discrimination in favor of able-bodied people.
Activism
noun
consists of efforts to promote, impede, direct or intervene in social, political, and economic reform with a desire to make changes in society that make a positive impact.
Apartheid
noun
segregation on grounds other than race.
Bias
noun
is a disproportionate weight in favor of or against an idea or thing.
Bigotry
noun
intolerant devotion to one's own opinions and prejudices.
Cultural competence(y)
noun
refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures.
Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)
noun
A researched based approach to teaching. It connects students' cultures, languages, and life experiences with what they learn in school.
Diversity
noun
the practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.
Emigrant
noun
a person who leaves their own country in order to settle permanently in another.
Equity
noun
the quality of being fair and impartial.
Ethnicity
noun
The state of belonging to a social group or ethnicity that has a common national or cultural tradition.
Gender Expression
noun
the way in which a person expresses their gender identity, typically through their appearance, dress, and behavior.
Gender Identity
noun
an individual's personal sense of having a particular gender.
Genderqueer
adjective
Example: relating to a person who does not subscribe to conventional gender distinctions but will identify themselves neither, both, or a combination of male or female genders.
Heterogeneous
adjective
diverse in character content.
Hidden Curriculum
noun
Is a set of lessons which are learned but not openly intended to be taught in schools such as the norms, values and beliefs.
Homogeneous

Microaggressions
noun
indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group.
Minority
noun
a relatively small group of people, especially one commonly discriminated against in a community, society, or nation, differing from others in race, religion, language, or political persuasion.
Prejudice
noun
preconceived opinion that is not based on good reason or actual experience. Harm or injury that results or may result from some action or judgement.
Progressive
noun
(of a group, person, or idea) favoring or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.
Socialization
noun
the activity of mixing socially with others
Values
noun
a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life.
Viewpoint
noun
way of thinking.
Xenophobia
noun
dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.
